Within fifty years, we will be doing “the biggest chemistry experiment with our atmosphere that humans will have ever done”, professor Nathan S. Lewis warns in his excellent lecture that was recorded at the Roger Revelle Centennial Symposium in March this year (2009).

So, what needs to be done and when? Lewis explains carefully why the world needs both political will and next-generation (solar) energy technology. As to the question of when, time is running out. Lewis thinks “we have at most ten years to decide which path to take, because the Earth will take a path if we choose not to take a different one”.
